Double Stripes

As much as I love shopping, my family’s teacher/military budget doesn’t allow for me to buy a whole new wardrobe each season. I think it is important to take pieces from last year & create new, exciting ways to wear them so they feel “new” again!

Bar Shirt: J.Crew Factory {on super sale!} / Striped Vest: J.Crew {same vest available at Gap Outlet} / White Skinnies: American Eagle similar here / Polkadot flats: Gap similar / Crossbody: Forever 21 similar here / Statement necklace: Minday Mae’s Market {save 10% on your entire order with code ‘kelsslayt’} / Watch: Kate Spade

I eyeballed this J.Crew vest for months last year before finally scoring it late in the season on super sale. It was one of my favorite buys of the entire year! Even though we are in a new year with new styles, this vest was one of the first things I was excited to pull from the depths of my seasonal closet.

& Because I can’t seem to stay away from mixing prints, I opted for a subtle mix of different prints, all in navy! I am loving how the two different stripe styles came out paired together.

What piece are you most excited to pull out of your closet from last year?

MAXImize Your Closet {Part 2}

I’m back on this lovely Thursday with another way to transform your favorite summer maxi dress into a fall appropriate look!

White Maxi Dress: Milk & Honey Boutique similar here / Striped Sweater: Target similar here / Envelope Clutch: Target similar here / Heels: Steve Madden / Necklace: Mindy Mae’s Market / Watch: Kate Spade

Layering a sweater on top of a dress is an incredibly easy way to get a new look from an old closet staple. This works for all types of different dresses {something I plan to do with several of my strapless dresses for the cooler months}. Since I was going for a more sophisticated date night look, I added a pair of basic pumps, statement necklace & black envelope clutch.

To create a similar look, make sure you are pairing pieces with a contrasting fit: Flowy skirt/dress with a fitted sweater OR a fitted skirt/dress with an oversized sweater.

I would love to see your take on this “maxi dress into fall” style! Tag me on Instagram <@kelsslayt> or tweet me <@StyledBlonde> to share your look!

MAXImize your Closet {Part 1}

We all have those beloved summer maxi dresses that keep up cool in the dead of the summer… But what happens to those dresses when the temperatures drop & we are left reaching for warmer pieces? Well I decided I want to maximize my closet by taking those pieces into next season by adding appropriate layers!

White Dress: Milk & Honey similar here / Utility Jacket: JCP similar here / Ankle Boots: TJ Maxx similar here, here & here! / Necklace: Mindy Mae’s Market c/o / Watch: Nordstrom
This darling pleated white maxi dress from Milk & Honey Boutique was such a life saver this summer! However, it isn’t exactly “teacher appropriate” or warm on its own. Using a little Pinterest inspiration, {follow me here!} I opted to add my green utility jacket & cut-out booties. Now this maxi dress is almost as fall ready as I am! Adding this “tough,” structured jacket to the feminine pleat details of this dress created a fun contrast that was balanced with the neutral accessories. So go grab that dress you already put away for the cooler temps & try pairing it with booties and jacket for a refreshed style!
Come back tomorrow & I will share another way to transform your favorite summer dress into the perfect fall outfit!
